“I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by.”
― Douglas Adams
Well, kind of. I didn’t make it to 50,000 words this time, thanks to an incredible rut I hit on day 18. My final word count was 30,536 words – with over 5000 words were written on the final day. So,by definition, I didn’t “win” NaNoWriMo.
But! I don’t feel bad – not one bit. Firstly, 30,536 is the most words I’ve written for a NaNo (or any month really) and I met my own personal goal of completing the first draft of my manuscript! Now THIS feels really great, it’s been years since I’ve finished a project of this size (excuses, excuses) and I now I get to get down to editing the monstrosity that is the first draft.
Ultimately, my favorite part of this year was going to write-ins and meeting my fellow nanos. It was such a good experience and I’m hoping that we will get together more often than once a year.
