Across the Distance – Poetry

An old love poem from my 2013 archives about the challenges of long distance relationships.

In a world where I imagine you’re there.
I create the most perfect moments in my head.
The fantasy lets me live in your absence;
Cursed by our long scarlet thread.

Our patience grows weak, but our bond in strong,
No matter what happens, I’ll never regret.
And I’m entirely unashamed to say,
That I’d give my soul to someone I haven’t met.

One Of Those Girls 03/2013

ONE OF THOSE GIRLS

I was one of those girls
who played with Barbies.
Who went on wild adventures
with an imaginary friend.

I was one of those girls
the boys didn’t like.
Chubby, and awkward
who never really fit in.

And that’s ok.

I was one of those girls
emo bands sing about.
With cuts on her wrists
and lies on her lips.

I was one of those girls
Who fell madly in love,
Time went on and we
broke each other’s hearts.

And that’s ok.

I am one of those girls,
a hopeless romantic.
Waiting for someone,
To love me for me

I am one of those girls
Who became a mom.
Learned the hard way and
Doing it alone.

And that’s ok.

I am one of those girls
With good days and bad.
Most days I love myself.
Some days I cannot stand.

I am one of those girls
who follows my dreams.
Knowing that I am
meant for more than this.

And that’s ok.

Soon I’ll be one of those girls
Who looks back and laughs.
At the haters and
all those who hurt me.

Soon I’ll be one of those girls
Who can brag a little.
I’ll be proud of what
I’ve accomplished so far.

And that’s ok.

Soon I’ll be one of those girls
Who has finally made it.
All my dreaming and
Effort will pay off.

Soon I’ll be one of those girls
In a midlife crisis.
Wondering why the
time has slipped away.

And that’s ok.

One day I’ll be one of those girls
Still full of stories.
That the family
visits on Sundays.

One day I’ll be one of those girls
Old, dead and buried.
A faded photo
Held by my granddaughter.

And that’s ok.

First poem that  I have written in forever. I love the free verse style of poetry. I’m glad to know I haven’t lost my touch.
