Camp NaNoWriMo July 2016

Hooray! – Camp NaNoWriMo 2016 July Edition.

I’ve decided that I will set my word count goal to 50,000 words even though I’m not exactly sure that I’m going to write. I plan on finishing the first book in a planned trilogy that I started in April’s Camp NaNo. At the end of April, I wrote 40,000 words for the first draft and since then I’ve edited and added about 15,000 more. If everything goes as planned, there’s about 20,000 more words to write on this draft.

After that, I’ll still have 30,000 more words to fill in July and I plan on divvying that up between a few romance novellas that I’ve been writing for KDP. If I manage to hit 50,000 words, it will be the most I’ve ever written in a month and I will be ready to face November NaNoWriMo with more confidence than before.

Wish me luck! You can visit my Camp NaNoWriMo profile here if you want to join in on the fun. 🙂

NaNoWriMo 2015 – The Aftermath

“I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by.”
― Douglas Adams

Well, kind of. I didn’t make it to 50,000 words this time, thanks to an incredible rut I hit on day 18. My final word count was 30,536 words – with over 5000 words were written on the final day. So,by definition, I didn’t “win” NaNoWriMo.

But! I don’t feel bad – not one bit. Firstly, 30,536 is the most words I’ve written for a NaNo (or any month really) and I met my own personal goal of completing the first draft of my manuscript! Now THIS feels really great, it’s been years since I’ve finished a project of this size (excuses, excuses) and I now I get to get down to editing the monstrosity that is the first draft.

Ultimately, my favorite part of this year was going to write-ins and meeting my fellow nanos. It was such a good experience and I’m hoping that we will get together more often than once a year.

The 50 Book Challenge Update – November

I’m sitting at 45 books for 2015, so I have to make time for 5 books this December. I’ll be off on break for two weeks so I think that is doable! Especially since I discovered and binged on books this Black Friday. I have 25 new books in the mail right now!

NaNoWriMo 2015 – Day 30

It is now the last day of NaNoWriMo and I’m still under 30,000 words. I hit a snag about mid month and sadly didn’t recover. It wasn’t a plot problem so much as a personal rut, but here we are.

I scrapped my manuscript idea on Day 7 and set my new goal of finishing my other manuscript that I started in April. So I went into this knowing that it was unlikely that I would hit 50,000 words, but I was gonna write my butt off to finish the manuscript.

To end of NaNoWriMo on a high note, I’ll be attending my last local write-in of 2015. I really loved meeting like-minded nanos, binging on coffee and laughing more than writing. I have no close friends that write and I really wanted to build my network a bit.

Ultimately, I’d still like to get this manuscript done before the end of 2015 so I can dedicate the winter months of 2016 to editing. Wish me luck!

NaNoWriMo 2015 – Day 15

As of Sunday morning (Day 15 of NaNoWriMo) I am sitting at just under 22,000 words. I’m about 3000 words short of the projected pace.

If you remember, I scrapped my manuscript idea on Day 7 and set my new goal of finishing my other manuscript that I started in April. This manuscript is now at 62,000 words (unedited) with about 25% of the book left to write.

What I love most about NaNoWriMo is that it reminded me that I DO have time to write, I just need to make it a priority. It reminds me how much I love to write, what a stress reliever it is and most importantly – that it’s fun!
